Like many independent schools, the Lowell Whiteman School prides itself on its academic excellence. Based in small class sizes, close relationships between faculty and students, and their shared intellectual curiosity, the academic program fosters critical academic skills and the passion to pursue subjects in higher education.

Building uniquely around the classroom, the LWS experience is completed by the life shaping experiential opportunities that alumni speak of decades after they conclude their LWS career. The opportunities reach beyond the accumulation of knowledge, into the lessons of self-discovery. Students follow different paths at LWS; some lead them to Senegal, Mongolia, and other far-flung destinations for the Foreign Travel program, a month long immersion promoting individual growth and providing unencumbered intercultural experiences. Others balance competition against the best and brightest skiers and snowboarders in the country with the demands of an in-depth secondary education, gone for a week to race Olympians and Olympic hopefuls, returning to catch up on English papers and chemistry labs. All students spend part of their journey in the wilds of the Rocky Mountains and the natural landscapes from Utah to Idaho as part of the outdoor program. And whether by horse, climbing harness, foot, bike, or kayak, as they explore the natural world they find they have learned more about themselves. Students find these challenges and more at Lowell Whiteman, and that, after all, is what creates their most lasting memories.

Rigorous college preparatory curriculum, world class winter athletics and exciting outdoor adventure. Welcome to Lowell Whiteman School!

Academic and Sport Facilities

Classes and classrooms are small. Most classes are housed in Charley Williams Lodge, the main academic building. Multiple classrooms have digital projectors for classroom instruction. In addition, there are two lab classrooms for the sciences including biology, physics, chemistry, and anatomy & physiology. Also on campus we have two computer labs in addition to the library computers. The upstairs lab functions as a classroom for computer classes as well as an open lab for study halls. The downstairs lab, Zavik Center, is a language lab for the Spanish and French departments. There is also the Art Room and the Krautkramer Theatre. Trampoline (particularly popular with freestyle skiers and snowboarders), half-pipe skate ramp, ski hill with boxes and rails, gymnasium with free weights, weight machines, stationary bicycles, basketball court, and rock climbing wall.

Dormitories and School Residences

Three houses, Elizabeth Hall for the girls, Bunkhouse for younger boys, and Kakela Hall for older boys. All houses have a common lounge with cable TV and a house phone as well. The three houses also have laundry washers and dryers and small house kitchens. The entire campus, including all residential houses, has access to wireless internet.
