School District Profile
Brevard County School District has 16 high schools. Career and Technical schools with specialized academies are located in all high schools. Brevard County has two high schools with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program and four high schools with the Cambridge International Diploma program. Fifteen of the 16 high schools offer advanced placement courses, and all high schools offer collegiate or dual enrollment opportunities.
Community Profile
Just 35 miles east of Orlando, Brevard County prides itself as the home of Kennedy Space Center, the only facility in the world that launches the Space Shuttle; Port Canaveral, the second-busiest cruise port in the world; 72 miles of beautiful Atlantic Ocean beaches; and the largest collection of endangered wildlife and plants in the continental United States. This area is also referred to as the Space Coast and includes the cities Titusville, Cocoa, Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne and Palm Bay. Brevard Public Schools are educational leaders under the banner of FIRST IN FLORIDA. In 2006-07, Brevard schools ranked in the top seven districts in reading, math and science in each of the 17 areas assessed by the FCAT.
