Chicago Public Schools is currently the third largest school district in the United States, with more than 400,000 students enrolled. CPS strives to help students achieve their full potential and become productive members within their community. CPS believes that high school is an important time for a child to grow intellectually and personally. They strive for academic excellence while making school a fun environment to learn in. Every high school works to understand each child and create an environment where they will “flourish.”

Special Comment

Three of Chicago’s high schools are ranked among the top 100 high schools in the U.S by Newsweek in 2008.

These schools are Lincoln Park, Northside College Preparatory, and Jones College Preparatory. Many of Chicago’s other high schools offer a challenging curriculum.

Its location at the site of a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed aided the city's rapid growth. Today, Chicago is a leading global city and a major transportation hub, as well as the business, financial, educational and cultural capital of the Midwest.
