Salem Academy was established in 1772 and offers college preparatory education for girls in grades 9-12. With twenty AP and honors courses offered, academic achievement is at the center of the school. Sports, theatre, music and the arts, community work - all of these are important because they bring fullness and happiness into the lives of the students.

The school campus offers college level athletic facility; fine arts center with two performance auditoriums and a black box theater. Salem's AP English Literature teacher and Director of Studies is one of 8 people across the United States (and one of four high school teachers) who write the AP exam. In addition, she serves as a question leader, one of the highest levels of AP exam readers. In 2012 the average SAT was 1820 and the graduating class was awarded 1.1 million in university scholarships!

Boarding Facilities

Students at Salem Academy live two to a room. Some of the dorm rooms are suite-style, with two roommates sharing a bathroom with two other roommates. Others have a hall bath. All dorm rooms have two beds, two desks, two dressers, and two closets. Beds may be bunked, lofted, or separate. Each room also has a sink and medicine cabinet. Students may decorate the rooms with pictures and posters, small rugs, and other personal items. They may also have small refrigerators. New students are assigned roommates based on interest questionnaires completed during the summer. After the first year, students may choose their own roommates with room preference based on a seniority system.
